Scene - Site-specific installation 1999

Scene was a site-specific installation done in collaboration with Anthony Hunt at Talk Artists initiative, Melbourne Australia in 1999.
The installation consisted of constructing an 8x3 meter plasterboard wall over a timber frame, which covered the south-facing windows of the gallery. We then repainted a simplified version of the view onto the wall, with paints, used for painting backdrops for stage theatre.
The project was a tongue-in-cheek response to the gallery space itself. Every exhibition hosted in the space always seemed to be outclassed by the impressive 6th-floor views over Flinders Street station, onto the shrine of remembrance. Inevitably gallery attendees would turn their backs on the artwork in the gallery space in favour of the scene in the window frames.
By denying access to the windows, we re-presented the view to the audience as a simplified mural.
